It's location was interesting, it's sandwiched between a liquor store and the colonial baking company but once you walk in those doors it's an adorable, funky little store with tons of charm. The owner was at the counter and was so sweet and helpful. Everything they serve is as local and farm raised as possible. She even gets her pasta made fresh locally out of chickpea! It's mainly takeout but they do have three small tables to sit for a spell. My only complaint is that they're only open from 11-4, which makes it a lunch only spot.
They have specials as well as a great full menu of salads, sandwiches, soups and sides. The bread they bake there is all gluten free. They do have non-gf options for sandwiches but that bread is brought in to lessen any
cross contamination.
The special I had on Friday was half soup/half sandwich - ham & smoked cheddar on homemade rosemary bread with grilled veggies (onions & peppers), banana peppers & tomato. IT WAS PHENOMENAL. My husband always laughs at me because I get so excited but I haven't had a sandwich this good in forever. The soup was cream of broccoli with chicken - it was also phenomenal! There was also a pickle & two mini corn muffins.
The prices are great considering we all know we pay more for gf, farm fresh food. It was only $6.50 for my meal. I also ended up getting a fruit tea (pineapple juice, tea, orange juice, agave nectar) as well as a treat of pumpkin seed brittle.
All in all, I have to say they don't just give Fiddlecakes a run for their money, they surpass them. The main reason? Bread. Their bread is light-years better than Fiddlecakes. It is soft, airy & doesnt fall apart when you pick it up. Also, because it is primarily gluten free, I feel like they've really invested time & effort into the taste of everything. I still love Fiddlecakes, their awesome treats and the great gals that run it but I think A Matter of Taste just took the top spot. Congrats on opening a wonderful restaurant! You will see me often ;-)
